Resilience on AWSz

Famulus

The customer

Famulus is a healthcare technology services company that provides real-time analytics software and custom pharmacy networks to help health plans and employers manage their pharmacy benefits and lower their costs.

The challenge

This success is based on Famulus’s ability to provide a reliable connection over Direct Connect with one of their partners. The partner had requirements like an appliance on EC2 for routing public IPs over DX. It was important for Famulus to consult with someone who knows AWS networking and networking in general (NAT, Routing, Protocols, etc.). They required an Active-Active, 100% uptime solution with low latency. Because of this factor Famulus knew they needed to outsource the management of such a complex environment.

Famulus also required secure functionality to provide protected data so their application could share information with other pharmacies. The secure access of their proprietary tools for insurance education and scanning insurance cards that will gather plan information and can then confidently recommend the best medication or service.

The solution

CloudHesive worked with Famulus Health to set up a single virtual appliance in one region to provision an IP to Famulus’s partner. CloudHesive updated the configuration to be High Availability with a total of 8 CSR appliances across two reigns, us-east-1 and us-east-2. CloudHesive then set up Famulus’s Transit Network Account that utilizes Transit Gateways, Cisco Cloud Service Routers, and Direct Connect to enable communication between their EKS clusters and their client.

The traffic is sent from the EKS clusters through the shared Transit Gateway in the shared Transit Network account to a pair of Cisco CSRs. This provided network address translation (NATG) of the private IP address to a static public IP that is allowed through the client’s firewall. The traffic then flows through the Direct Connect Connection and reaches the Prime Network. Since the client’s network only accepted traffic from allowed public IP addresses, the CSR provided a static public IP address that would otherwise not be available for use.

Technologies Leveraged: VPC, EC2, EBS, Transit Gateway, Direct Connect, ENI, EIP

The results

The solution that CloudHesive built for Famulus provided a much higher reliable connection to their partner in need. Their application now can securely share data with pharmacies and can ensure that the best medication/plan is being offered to end users. This will undoubtedly increase customer satisfaction as well as client usability.

Resilience on AWS

City Furniture

The customer

A Florida based retailer on a mission to change the way people live with beautiful home furnishings at incredible value. Their roots date back to the 1970s when they opened as Waterbed City, and over the years evolved into a leading furniture and home accents destination. Style and value are at the core of everything, and with nearly 20 showrooms across the state and an expansive e-commercial suite, they are constantly evolving to bring customers the very best.

The challenge

City Furniture business model for technology included outsourcing x86 and networking technologies to IBM Cloud to support their company’s non-digital IT environment. The client did not have available resources to support this endeavor and went to IBM for this type of solution. As time went on, City Furniture had numerous issues with availability as well as timely updates and was dissatisfied as IBM did not meet management or performance expectations for the environments networking and VMware components.

The solution

Once CloudHesive was engaged by City Furniture, we started with assessing the client’s current environment and recommending migrating VMware onto IBM Cloud to AWS and redesign networking components. Once the migration was completed, CloudHesive assumed CloudHesive Managed Services for the new AWS environment.

Migration Readiness Assessment (MRA) program was used to assess environment’s Direct Connect, replace existent IBM networking, CloudEndure used for migration of VMWARE on IBM Cloud to AWS. CloudHesive implemented tools including AWS CloudWatch, Sumo Logic and Datadog to manage their environment.

The results

The customer’s X86 journey was architected and deployed by CloudHesive with emphasis placed on the adherence of customer standards. This required working with the customer to establish a baseline understanding, baseline standard and baseline operational processes ahead of the implementation and transition to support. Among other achievements, lower cost, more agile and better visibility, and observability.
