TyC Sports: Moving Toward a Broadcast Without Infrastructure

What can a multimedia giant with a 24/7 content schedule expect on its path toward digital transformation? Agility, security, and progress. At CloudHesive, we know how.

Today we present the TyC Sports case, one of our success stories featuring the most implemented solutions and a major challenge successfully met.

Stay with us to discover how the development of an intelligent platform can bring together the answers needed for elastic and accelerated growth.

About TyC Sports
Any sports fan knows them, but it’s worth highlighting the scale of this channel, part of Grupo Clarín, with over 25 years of history.

TyC Sports is Argentina’s number one sports channel and ranks among the top three in the region. Its programming runs 24/7, broadcasting top-tier events such as the FIFA World Cup, Copa América, and the Argentine Primera División, among others.

Its market segment sees significant seasonal spikes and does not maintain stable demand year-round. As a result, the channel identified the need to develop a platform that could broadcast its linear signal while allowing for elastic scaling based on demand, reducing costs during lower-demand periods for sports events.

In the midst of a transition into the OTT world—a space TyC Sports couldn’t afford to miss—the platform’s development had to be fast and produce solid results.

The Challenge CloudHesive Took to the Field
In this context—and well-accustomed to working with clients established in the market and dealing with large volumes of data and content—our challenge began with a proposal that included the implementation of the following solutions:

  • A secure, 24/7 signal ingest system not dependent on the channel’s technology or infrastructure.
  • The creation of injection points untied from any physical infrastructure.
  • The development of a robust, elastic application architecture capable of scaling during short event transmission windows.
  • The generation of an event catalog easily consumed by the CORE application.
  • The implementation of a simple architecture based on AWS PaaS services, able to accommodate future developments.
  • The creation of a service to make both live and archived content available to new applications and industry players.

Translating a new partner’s needs and growth vision into an executable list of proposals is a practice we’re very familiar with.

What Did We Do?
Our teams broke down the challenge into a clear and precise roadmap. Some of the items we worked on included:

  • An administrative back office with the ability to manage content ingest, build the media library, and organize events and scheduling.
  • A front-end application adaptable to various media and content types—intuitive and very easy to navigate.
  • A serverless set-up with PaaS tools from Elemental, designed to scale and adapt robustly to audience changes.

We implemented the following AWS solutions:

  • AWS Elemental MediaLive
  • AWS Elemental MediaStore
  • Amazon CloudFront
  • Amazon S3
  • Amazon CloudWatch

What TyC Sports Said About CloudHesive
Our challenge—and the solutions we implemented to meet it—allowed our partner to cover existing needs while expanding its future outlook in capturing new audiences.

“AWS has allowed us to meet the demands we had and also look to the future with optimism and excitement, reaching audiences that allow us to grow strongly within the OTT industry,” said Martín Horacio Rubino Baña, Programming Coordinator at TyC Sports.

In the digital exploration journey and the fast-paced world of OTT platforms, having CloudHesive and AWS as partners was extremely helpful in accelerating progress with greater confidence and security.
